According to the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, the maximum legal working hours allowed are 45 hours weekly.

This doesn’t mean that the employees must work these hours – this is all contract dependent on what is agreed upon between the employer and employee.

It is beneficial to accommodate break times, especially after the first 5 hours of work.

Any time worked over 45 hours in the week should be paid at over-time rates.

Over-time work is voluntary, and may only be worked if there is an agreement between employee and employer. Remuneration will therefore be 1.5 times the normal wage rate per hour.

If your Care Giver works on Sundays or public holidays, you will pay twice the normal hourly wage.
